OEM vs ODM: Choosing the Right Model
OEM means you supply the design and we manufacture it to your specification. ODM means you start from one of our 27 existing silhouettes and customise it. OEM gives full control and needs a tech pack; ODM reaches a first sample in roughly half the time and needs only your logo artwork.
The practical OEM vs ODM difference is who owns the pattern. In OEM you own it and we cut to your file; in ODM we own it and license the silhouette to you for the order. Everything else — MOQ, sampling time, inspection standard, export documents — is identical, so the choice really comes down to how much design control you need this season.

Side-by-side comparison

| Exclusivity | Your design never reused for another client | Exclusive once customised — moulds and files quarantined |
| Best for | Established brands with a defined product | New brands, capsules and fast market tests |
How to choose for a first order
The honest answer is that most brands should not start with OEM. A first order exists to find out whether the product sells, and ODM gets you to that answer in weeks at a lower setup cost. Move to OEM once you know the silhouette works and you want it to be yours alone.
- Choose ODM if — you have a moodboard rather than a tech pack, you need stock within 6–8 weeks, or you are testing whether the category works for your audience.
- Choose OEM if — the shape is already validated, you want a silhouette no competitor can order, or your retailer requires full documentation to your own specification.
- You can switch — starting with ODM does not lock you out of OEM. We keep the pattern and embroidery files, so a later OEM build reuses the approved base instead of starting over.
Where private label fits
Private label is not a third manufacturing model — it is a branding layer you can apply to either. You can order an ODM silhouette with your woven labels and packaging, or an OEM build with your own branding components. Most first orders are ODM plus private label, which is why buyers often confuse the two.

Production & Customization FAQ
Can I start with ODM and switch to OEM later?
Yes, and it is the path we recommend. We keep your pattern and embroidery files, so a later OEM build starts from the approved base — no re-sampling from zero.
Is ODM cheaper overall?
For a first order, almost always yes — there is no pattern or tooling cost and the unit price is lower. At high volume the gap narrows, because OEM setup costs are amortised across many units.
Who owns the design in each model?
You do, in both. Under OEM your artwork, patterns and moulds are exclusively yours. Under ODM, the base silhouette is ours but your customised version, moulds and files are exclusively yours.
Which model do most buyers actually choose?
Roughly two thirds start with ODM or ODM plus private label, then move to OEM once the silhouette is proven. Brands arriving with a completed tech pack go straight to OEM.
