Hand-Woven Bamboo Bags & Joinery
Bamboo is stiffer and more dimensional than rattan, which makes it better for architectural shapes and structural handles than for soft, foldable totes.

How to Order & Sample
Carbonised bamboo is heat-treated so the sugars that attract insects are removed, which makes it suitable for export without chemical treatment. We also build joinery — bamboo frames and handles slotted and pinned rather than glued alone — when a bag needs to hold a shape.
- Fibre and weave direction — natural finish, smoked, or carbonised, and open or tight weave.
- Frame and handle construction — whether the handle is woven in, stitched leather, or brass hardware.
- Lining and moisture behaviour — natural fibres move with humidity, so we confirm lining and stiffness expectations up front.

Quick Answers: MOQ, Sampling & Lead Times
Short, self-contained answers to the questions buyers ask most about this programme.
- Why is bamboo carbonised for export?
- Carbonising is a heat treatment that removes the sugars which attract insects and mould. Untreated bamboo risks being intercepted or fumigated at customs, which adds delay and cost. Carbonised bamboo ships without chemical treatment, so the piece also avoids pesticide residue concerns.
- Can bamboo handles be combined with a canvas body?
- Yes, and it is one of our most requested combinations. The joint needs a leather or canvas wrap where the handle meets the body, otherwise the bamboo abrades the fabric at the contact point. We also slot and pin the bamboo rather than relying on adhesive alone.
- Bamboo or rattan for a structured bag?
- Bamboo is stiffer, more dimensional and takes a crisper architectural line, so it suits geometric shapes, rigid handles and boxes. Rattan bends further without cracking and gives a smoother, more organic surface, which suits round shapes and curved bodies.
- Does bamboo joinery add cost?
- Yes, because slotted and pinned joinery is bench work rather than assembly. It typically adds 15–30 percent over a glued frame, but it is the difference between a handle that stays rigid for years and one that loosens in the first season.
Production & Customization FAQ
Is carbonised bamboo necessary for export?
For most destinations, yes — untreated bamboo risks insect interception at customs. Carbonising removes the sugars and avoids a fumigation delay.
Can bamboo handles be combined with a canvas body?
Yes, and it is one of our most requested combinations. The joint needs a leather or canvas wrap where the handle meets the body, otherwise the bamboo will abrade the fabric at the contact point.
